Learning unit contents

The course "Construction project management" takes place during the first semester every year. The audiences of this course are engineers especiqlly architectural engineers end civil engineers.

 

The course is organized into modules making it easier to understand the management of a project. The course starts with all the actors involved during the realization of a project (from design to completion) and the different stages of the project. As we go along, the legal, economic, practical, planning & verification aspects are be addressed.

  • Construction Milestones
  • Working Methods
  • Judicial aspects
  • Partnerships and Contracts (Design&Build)
  • Standards, Codes and Certification
  • Specifications

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

Understanding and mastering projects management including the design, construction and execution process for building construction projects. At the end of this course the student should be able to:



  • Know the relevant laws concerning the construction in Belgium
  • Knowing stakeholder's role and responsibilities on project and intervention order
  • Knowing about management tools
  • Learn about the administrative documents such specifications, building permission etc.
  • Understanding the design process - implementation - commissioning
  • Understanding the different links major milestone and tasks within project management
  • Evaluate the budget of a project
  • Prepare and submit a bid 
The course should enable the student to:



  • Coordinate a team to develop, agree and make a work plan.
  • Access to appropriate resources of information and evaluate them
  • Persevere despite difficulties or initial challenges to find the optimal solution.
  • Document and communicate a project brief
  • Plan activities to make the best the available time.

None, this course is an introductory course.
