This course combines a theoretical approach to the structures of modern Chinese with a focus on the practical dimensions of communication.

 The coursebook used is Méthode de chinois Premier niveau (I. Rabut et al). We shall also use the "virtual toolbox" available on the ECampus/Ultra platform.

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

"Langue chinoise II" aims at improving the communicational abilities of students as well as at improving their knowledge of the grammar of modern Chinese.
The course also aims to deepen the mastery of modern Chinese grammar (complex grammatical structures such as the "ba" structure, particles and verbal suffix "le", complex directional complements, otpative verbs, etc.).

Prerequisite knowledge and skills

To have studied at least 60h of Chinese language course.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

The following learning activities are planned:
- Presentation of the basic structures of the grammar of the modern Chinese language and exercises related to these concepts;
- Work in small groups around oral expression;
- Frequent use of the ECampus platform for a set of work to be done at home (versions; grammar exercises; stories to be posted on ECampus);
- Home preparation work for grammar and translation exercises

Recommended or required readings

Textbook "Méthode de chinois" (niv. 1) bu Isabelle Rabut et al. 
Additional documents (grammar notes; power point; songs; etc.) will be used and made available to students on ECampus. The use of these materials is intended to facilitate student learning and make learning more dynamic.

- written exam (50%) AND oral exam (40%);

- participation to the class sessions and to the online assignments: 10% of the total grade.

Written exam for the January session; for the June session written and oral exams. In addition to these evaluations, the participation to the classes will be assessed (as well as the regular assignments). 

Students will be assessed according to the following criteria:

 

- written and oral skills;

- ability to understand simple messages relating to everyday life;

- mastery of the basic structures of modern Chinese syntax;

- mastery of basic notions of Chinese grammar.


The mark of the midterm exam in January will count for 50% of the June final mark if > or = 10/20. The mark will have no effect on the final grade if it doesn't reach 10/20 and the final exam will then be cumulative.
