Prerequisite or corequisite units are presented within each program

Learning unit contents

The student achieves an internship with a minimal duration of 80 open days, which is necessarily linked to a master thesis. An academic advisor and a representative of the company approve the specific objectives of the internship and carry on its follow-up.
The student is covered by the university insurance provided that an internship agreement between the student, the company and the academic advisor is signed before the beginning of the internship. If needed, a risk analysis survey should also be completed.
At the end of the internship, the student delivers a report and the industrial representative fills in an evaluation sheet. At the end of the semester, the internship is evaluated by the academic advisor who decides whether the credits are validated.

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

  • Get a better knowledge of the industrial world, of the organization of companies and of the engineer tasks and responsibilities
  • Develop and apply her/his scientific and technical knowledge in order to solve an industrial problem
  • Get new soft skills: relational aptitudes, cooperation, team integration, sense of initiative, etc

Prerequisite knowledge and skills

Co-requisite: Master thesis
It is not allowed to select both an observation internship and a professional integration internship within one master track.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

  • The student is responsible for finding a company and an academic advisor
  • During the internship, he/she participates actively in the company life and contributes to the solution of an industrial problem
  • At the end of the internship, he/she prepares a report

Mode of delivery (face to face, distance learning, hybrid learning)

Recommended or required readings

The evaluation by the academic advisor is of pass/fail type and leads to the validation of the credits. It relies on

  • the evaluation sheet provided by the industry representative
  • the report provided by the student, which should include the objective of the internship, a study of its organization (linked with the company management lecture if relevant) and an activity report focused on non-technical aspects. The report, clearly separated from the master thesis, should be well presented. The length is free but a 15 pages contribution is generally expected.
