Master thesis
The final year project is an individual large-scale project that can be carried out in a ULiège research group, other university, research centre or company, in Belgium or abroad. It is expected that the student will carry out the equivalent of four months of full-time work. The topic must be proposed to and approved by a supervisor, who must be a permanent academic or scientific member of staff.

Master thesis
The final year project aims to prepare students for their transition towards industrial work or academic research. Students must demonstrate that they are capable of carrying out substantial work that by applying the practical and theoretical knowledge they acquired during their studies. The report will contain a state of the art, a substantial original contribution, an analysis of the results and a conclusion.

Additional information:
Academics propose topics that they are willing to supervise. These topics are proposed either by individual academics and are related to their research areas or by companies. Students can also submit their own proposals, but these must receive the approval of a supervisor. Students must chose their topics as early as possible, ideally before the end of the previous academic year, in order to allow enough time to complete the project within the normal deadline. The studies council verifies that each student has a topic and an appropriate examiners' committee. Students must give progress update to their supervisors with reasonable frequency. Progress meetings can be held in person of by videoconference.

Additional information:
Evaluation is based principally on the student's written report. There is no formal constraint on the length of this report, but it contains typically between 50 and 100 pages. Students must describe the context of the work, the problem or specification addressed, the proposed solution with supporting arguments. The report will also feature an evaluation of the results, conclusions and, optionally, appendices. The presentation of the work is oral and public. Each student will present their work for up to 15 minutes, followed by a question-answer session of up to 10 minutes. The examiners' committee will then deliberate for up to 5 minutes. The final grade will reflect the quantity and quality of the work, the quality of the written report and oral presentation and the effectiveness of the student's responses during the question-answer session.
