Learning unit contents

This course of Introduction to Systems Biology presents many methods of inference and even validation of metabolic, transcriptomic and proteins networks out of NGS data.
The exercises are performed mostly on the computer using the language R. At this level, basic knowledge in R is considered granted.

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

The objective of this course is to 1) master and 2) be able to use simple methods of biological systems modelisation and analysis.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

The course is divided in two parts, the first one theoretical and the second one more practical, makes use of the concepts introduced in the first part.

Additional information:

This course is essentially online through videos of theoretical materials, webpages of online exercises and videos of resolution of exercises.

Our RStudio server is available via a web navigator and allows students to perform the practical sessions online. The Ecampus forums are also available for online questions and answers.

Ecampus interrogations can be scheduled at the end of some course (see schedule on the web page of the course). These short evaluations helps the student understand the tools for the final evaluation and those can also contribute to the final grading of the course (also specified on the first course).

Finally, presential sessions of questions and answers are planned during the course in order to assist students in the mastery of the course and its related evaluations.

Additional information:

Each student is evaluated through an oral exam.  Typically a few theoretical questions are asked.

An interrogation that can exempt from the oral exam can sometimes take place. In this case, it has practical questions quite similar to those presented during the practical sessions. (All the details about the evaluation are given at the first course)

Organisational remarks and main changes to the course

There are 5 theoretical lessons  (2h each) followed each by a practical session (also 2h). All the lessons are given online but some Q&A sessions will take place in the building B22, Labo B (floor -1).
