Learning unit contents
Cultural policies, considered as the set of means implemented by an individual or a community to give itself a particular image, will be approached from three perspectives:
The first will present the various concepts associated with this term and their historical evolution.
The second will aim to present the evolution of cultural practices over the last two centuries by linking them to technological innovations, social and political changes, but also to the progressive integration of the cultural field into the economic field.
The third part will offer an overview of the different levels of power with competences in the field of culture. It will consider the international (UNESCO, WTO, OECD, Francophonie), European (Council of Europe, European Community), and national (federal Belgium, Federation Wallonie Bruxelles, provinces, municipalities) authorities.
The fourth will present cultural policies within the framework of the private sector.
Learning outcomes of the learning unit
Allow students to make sense of some general concepts.
To identify the main institutional cultural actors.
Understand that artistic productions depend on the context in which they are created.

Depending on the health conditions, teaching will be given in remote, face-to-face or hybrid mode.

The course does not include a syllabus. However, slides with the course outline, some definitions, authors' names and illustrations are available on ecampus.

Additional information:
Written exam in the classroom divided into three parts
- Identification of protected cultural property, sites, objects that have been presented during the course.
- Short questions on very specific points of the subject.
- Open-ended questions requiring a part of reference to the subject and a part of dissertation.
If the examination is to be held at a distance, it will consist of an essay.
