Learning unit contents

The student must write an individual work of research and legal analysis, consisting either of a review of case law is in a scholarly article.

Supervision and evaluation work is supported by professors of the department of law. They may, in accordance with Article 14 of the examination regulations, delegate the monitoring and evaluation of their work (s) assistant (s).

The logistician, M. Michel PETERS, is coordinating the course.

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

The student must learn how to write a scientific individual paper, and for this purpose:

- conduct an appropriate literature search, determine the scientific value of information sources;

- analyze and manage the documentation found;

- develop capacity for analysis and synthesis in the design of her written work;

- develop his personal reflection on the controversies encountered and learn to argue;

- refine and develop their skills of writing scientific

- write bibliography, references and citations as legal uses in science.

The course aims to prepare the student to the final work graduation final year of master in law.

Prerequisite knowledge and skills

The course assumes a thorough knowledge of French.

It also involves the acquisition of technical literature searches (being followed in second bachelor's degree in law, with application in the course of Tutorials in the second tray right for students who took the minor "option right").

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

The work must be done in three steps:

1) The student must write a presentation of his subject (a dozen lines), with a bibliography; the tutor is involved in the student comments via e-mail or during an interview (depending on the size of the remarks);

2) In december, the student must give a completed version of his written work; correction work will be an individual meeting between the tutor and the student;

3) The student must make the final corrected work before the Easter break.

The terms and dates of these deposits and meetings are set so imperative in the regulation of the course.

The contacts are made with the tutor exclusively by email, with the exception of individual meeting with the correction of the first version of the work (second step).

The submission of works are made on eCampus (PDF document) and by sending a copy by mail at the tutor.

Additional information:

The mark takes considers the work in each of three steps. The criteria of evaluation of the work are:

-           bottom of the work : the initial understanding of the subject ( 1st step), the 1st bibliographical research, the use of sources, the accuracy (absence of error of law), the legal reasoning, the critical mind ( personal reflection), the structure;

-          shape :  the writing (style, syntax), the spelling, the display, the quotations and the references, the choice of titles,

-          The appreciation of the personal work supplied by the student and the evolution of its work between the 1st work and the definitive version (in 1st and 2nd session) considering the quality of departure of the student (number of remarks or intervention of the tutor), the consideration of the remarks formulated by the tutor and the personal initiative of the student (to what extent he seized the opportunity to go farther to the deepening of his work?)

 

The evaluation of the student will be based on the following elements : written work and oral presentation.
The presentation, spelling and legibility are also factors taken into account.

The work must be the personal work of the student. Fraud or plagiarism results in a score of 0 / 20.

Is automatically cause for adjournment :
- the failure to meet deadlines and the character limit,
- failure to file a three-step process.

Pursuant to Article 54 of General Exam, the student who has not filed two works and did not attend the interview is inadmissible 2nd session.

In second session, student must rewrite the third version of his original subject with real improvments.

Organisational remarks and main changes to the course

Choice of material and distribution issues:
The student is prompted, in order of preference, several legal matters in which he wishes to do the job. Consideration will be given to these preferences wherever possible. In any event, the allocation of subjects is imperative.
