Learning unit contents

The purpose of this course is to familiarize students with basic economic mechanisms. Rigourous analysis will be based on concrete examples.
The course covers the main topics in the area of the macroeconomic theory: national accounting, wealth of nations, economic growth, development, (un)employment, money, economic fluctuations and cycles, and macroeconomic policies. 

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

At the end of the course, the student must be able to:

  • understand general  basic (macro)economic concepts;
  • explain and analyse general economic behaviours, at the national or international level;
  • understand and explain, in a critical perspective, the relations between the main economic variables;
  • based on exercises, determine the optimal choices of various agents;
  • explain and represent on a graph macroeconomic mechanisms.

The material presented in the textbook must be supplemented by notes taken during the lectures. In addition, complementary material will be available on lol@.

[FYI: Rules 2022-2023:

The exam is composed of two parts: a multiple choice questionnaire, and several open questions.

The multiple choice part represents 10% of the final grade, while the open questions account for 90%.

Students who get a grade below 10/20 for the multiple choice part will automatically obtain a grade of 0/20 for the open questions part. In that way, students who get less than 10/20 at the multiple choice questionnaire will get a final grade that is, mathematically, below 1/20.]
