Learning unit contents

The "performance factors" lecture presents exhaustively the various factors that influence athletic performance. The entire lecture will be divided into six chapters:
- The energy systems; - Endurance; - Strength; - Vélocity; - Flexibility; - Coordination; - Nutrition.
The identification of the determinants of performance is an essential step in the training process. It allows the coach to identify the elements on which it must focus and prioritize. Depending on the characteristics of the sport and the means available, the coach can build a battery of tests helpful:
- The detection of young talent; - To identify strengths and weaknesses of its athletes; - Monitoring the effectiveness of coaching.
The current practice, integrated module ... will illustrate concretely on the ground, the notions in theory.

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

After the course, students should know:

- Energy sources are essential to human movement and their use depending on the duration and intensity of effort;
- Techniques used in the laboratory and field for the evaluation of each direct or indirect energy system;
- The various components of endurance and the factors that influence it - the various components of the force and the factors that influence it;
- The various components of the velocity and the factors that influence it;
- The various components of the flexibility and the factors that influence it;
- The various skills related to coordination;
- The individual and collective psychological factors that can affect athletic performance;
- The basics of diet.

After the course, students should be able to:

- To identify for each discipline, the determinants of sports performance;
- To quantify the relative importance of each sector;
- To build a series of tests depending on the relevant sport and context;
- Advise on the management of sport in their diet before, during and after the competition.

Prerequisite knowledge and skills

During the determinants of performance requires some basic knowledge of chemistry and physics and a general basic knowledge of major sports. During the determinants of sport performance is itself a prerequisite to being "Training Basics" and "Conceptualization of  training."

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

Associated theoretical and practical lectures

Mode of delivery (face to face, distance learning, hybrid learning)

Face-to-face course

Additional information:

Theoretical and practical courses are organized face to face.  Some work will be done at home.

Recommended or required readings

The slideshows presented during the year will be published online on the MyUlg portal. They constitute the main support but they must be completed by the information given in the theoretical course.

Exam(s) in session

Any session

- In-person

written exam ( multiple-choice questionnaire, open-ended questions )

Written work / report

Continuous assessment

Additional information:

The theoretical evaluation takes place in the form of a written exam with closed and open answers.

Some questions are sometimes written by visiting teachers (food). In this case, they also correct their questions. Other questions are written and corrected by the incumbent and / or the assistant.

The practical evaluation is carried out on several criteria:

-the level of performance posted throughout the year;

-the percentage of attendance at the course;

-motivation

-The behaviour

-Tracking in the TP book

The theoretical score accounts for 65% of the points. The practical mark for 35%. A score lower than 9/20 in one of the two parts leads to a final score of less than 9/20.

A attendance rate of less than 70% for practical courses automatically implies a score of less than 9/20.
