Prerequisite or corequisite units are presented within each program

Learning unit contents

Ecology and dynamics of fresh water fish populations

The course addressed the theoretical concepts and practical-technological tools it is important to know to apprehend the study of the ecology of fish in rivers, at the individual and populational level.Inland water rivers are undergoing many anthropogenic pressures that have major impacts on fisheries resources and fishing activities.Solutions are proposed to conciliate the uses and services provided by rivers (hydroelectricity, navigation, irrigation, tourism, etc.) and the protection of fish resources.

Aquatic macro-invertebrates and bioindications

This course, organized in the form of theoretical classes, aims to acquire skills in the following topics:

Biology and identification of freshwater macroinvertebrates,

Bioindication methods

Aquatic Ecotoxicology : Pollutants and their impact on Physiology of the aquatic organisms and Biological quality of the ecosystem

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

Ecology and dynamics of fresh water fish populations

Learning basic knowledges of the ecology of inland water fish in order to apprehend the thoughtful management of their populations in a context of numerous and varied anthropic pressures.

Aquatic macro-invertebrates and bioindications

Understand the general biology of macroinvertebrates.

Become familiar with the different bioindication methods and their limitations.

Know the biology of insects used in fish feeding.

At the end of the course, the student should be able to

- Know the biology and identify the main species of macroinvertebrates

- Know bioindication techniques

- Identify the risks related to the use of specific products for freshwater habitats
