Learning unit contents

The cursus of project aims to reflect about strategic options for the development of a territory through case studies, in Belgium and abroad. It articulates diagnosis, benchmark, strategy development and programming.

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

Grasp the complexity of a territorial development project
Develop a working method
Collect and process territorial information
Suggest several development strategies
Compare different strategies and cultures of development.

Prerequisite knowledge and skills

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

After a short theoretical introduction, the students examine in small groups a territorial development strategy for a territory. After a critical analysis of the existing and planned projects, they draft operational recommendations for development strategy and programming.

A week of fieldwork abroad allows to revisit a similar issue in order to compare and criticize the two strategies of territorial development.

Additional information:

The reports account for 70% of the final score. A survey will be distributed to the group participants to assess internal collaboration.

An individual oral exam about the reports and tools used represents 30% of the final score.
