chapter headings: * 1: introduction and fossilisation-taphonomy * 2: origin and evolution of life in the Precambrian - astrobiology * 3: acritarches-prasinophytes * 4: dinoflagellates * 5: chitinozoans and scolecodonts * 6: foraminifers * 7: ostracodes and other calcareous microfossil * 8: siliceous microfossils and conodonts * 9: applications of micropaleontology (student presentations)
Learning outcomes of the course :  
At the end of this class, the student will be able to identify the main microfossil groups, and to understand modern analytical methods in micropaleontology, and their applications in paleobiology, paleoecology, paleogeography, paleoclimatology, paleooceanography, astrobiology, biostratigraphy and lithogenesis.
Prerequisites and co-requisites/ Recommended optional programme components :  
Planned learning activities and teaching methods :  
observation of different microfossil groups with microscope and binocular, oral presentation of a scientific paper, and visit of palynology, thin section and Infra-red mirospectroscopy laboratories

marking: 65% theory 25% praticals 10% understanding and oral presentation of a scientific article in front of the class
