Units courses prerequisite and corequisite

Prerequisite or corequisite units are presented within each program

Learning unit contents

Introduction to sedimentary geochemistry.

The course will be divided in 7 sections. It follows the sedimentary cycle: 1. introduction, composition of thecrust; 3. weathering processes; 4. hydrosphere; 5. sedimentary supplies; 6. diagenesis; 7. geochemical proxies.

A graphical abstract with the aim, structure and activities of the course is given on the MyULiege platform (see the tag introduction).

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

The aim is to understand the geochemical approach applied on sedimentary deposits.
At the end of the course, the students should have an overview of the interest of sedimentary geochemistry in the understanding of the external geological cycle.
In particular, the students should get the necessary tools to interpret sedimentary geochemical profiles, e.g. to identify the nature and sources of the main inputs, to understand the variability of the geochemical signature of sediments as a function of pa versus natural supplies, ...

Prerequisite knowledge and skills

basic knowledge of general chemistry and thermodynamics.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

TP - Selection of exercices chosen to better understand the theoritical part of the course (bring your calculator and laptop if any). One session per chapter + one additional session for revision.

Mode of delivery (face to face, distance learning, hybrid learning)

Face-to-face course
