Learning unit contents :
This course aims to offer first-year students a first contact with the reality of the business world.
It takes place in complementarity and support of the diverse courses provided to these students in their business education and enables them to relate their studies to the real world. Commitment: 30 hours - 5 conferences (15h)
- Home work (preparation of conferences (pre-readings, preparation of questions for the speakers, etc.) (15h)
Learning outcomes of the learning unit :
Consistent with the ILO's composing the bachelor degree, through this transversal course, students will be able to:
- become more familiar to the objectives and roles of organizations (public and private, for-profit and non-profit)
- discover concretely products and services provided by these organizations
- become aware of, and better understand the different jobs relating to business
- discover the different (management) functions in an organization
- get an overview of the socio-economic panorama and the industrial world in Wallonia and Belgium
- meet entrepreneurs, CEOs and managers. At the end of this course, students will thus be able to better understand the reality of a company (and its management) thanks to several testimonials.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods :
The learning process will consist of participation in conferences made my practitioners (CEO, experts) and compulsory readings to prepare each conference.
The compulsory readings aim to enlarge the general knowledge of students about the challenges and diversity of businesses (large and small, private and public, for-profit and non-profit, etc.).
Mode of delivery (face-to-face ; distance-learning) :
The course takes the form of a conference cycle by different key actors from the business world. 
Through the presentations by managers and thanks to various supports (videos, demonstrations of products or services, documentation, websites...), the students will discover the organizations, their products and services, and their management challenges in an increasingly complex world.
Recommended or required readings :
The students are expected to take notes during the conferences and a series of compulsory pre-readings will be available before each conference.
Assessment methods and criteria :
The evaluation will be based on a written exam (based on the content of the conferences and of the readings) organized in June as a multiple choice questionnaire.
