Learning unit contents

The course presents the basics of biostatitics (uni- and multivariate descriptive analysis, hypothesis testing), using MS Excel and R.

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

At the end of the course, the student is able to:
- choose the adequate graphical presentation for a dataset - choose the adequate descriptive statistics to give correct account of the variability in a dataset - understand the basic statistical tests and is able to use them
- is able to interpret the results of the analyses - use the basic statistical functions of MS Excel. - understand the basics of the R software (data set manipulation, functions usage, basic statistical analyses).

The slideshows presented during the lectures and some other additional material will be given to the students.A book "Méthodes statistiques en médecine vétérinaire" by Frédéric Farnir and Pascal Leroy is available at the Presses Universitaires de Liège.
The slides and exercises used in the course will be available on the course website

An exam on the analysis of a dataset and the interpretation of an analysis results will be carried on. The result is obtained on the basis of the results of the analysis and the explanations of the approach.
