Learning unit contents

The course is divided into interwoven two segments. The former will focus on the coursebook (chapters available on myulg) whereas the latter will focus on academic English. The chapters of the coursebook as well as the various learning activities in class aim at enabling the students to consolidate and to improve their oral and written skills. The course is based on the study of different modules from the coursebook. Students must prepare actively and regularly at home for the weekly class. Presence and participation are necessary and will be taken into account in the final mark. The book includes the four main language skills (writing, reading, speaking and listening) as well as grammar and vocabulary in use. Students will be expected to do the language exercises in the workbook and progress will be assessed by a number of quizzes. The academic side of the course will focus on the pitfalls of written English, and the requirements to write and present information in a formal way.

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

  • Revision and enrichment of advanced English vocabulary as well as of its appropriate use.
  • Reading comprehension: understanding texts, summarizing the information, reacting to the content.
  • Revision and extension of essential and advanced grammar principles and rules.
  • Academic English
