| IMPORTANT: teaching languages: French and German.
1. Course Contents
Master students will soon be on the job market and know better what they would like to do. They may realize that they will need German in their future career. In two years, this course aims at giving the students a basic knowledge of the German language. It's priority is efficient communication (rather than grammatical perfection) and the acquisition of German business vocabulary. We'll also try to introduce the students to some aspects of business life in Germany.
2. Main subjects:
- Basic communication strategies: how to introduce oneself, to greet, to apologize, to thank, to speak about time and location, to use and understand numbers, to make a phone-call... - a few business situations: establishing a CV, hiring interviews, branches and business activities, asking / giving information, having simple conversations at trade fairs, asking or giving prices, make an appointment, ... - a few aspects of business life in Germany: job search, trade fairs, big German companies, ... |

Learning outcomes of the course :

| C1. Acquisition of every day but also of business vocabulary and of essential grammar rules to be able to communicate.
C1. Information about some intercultural aspects and about business-life in Germany.
P2. Oral drills to acquire the studied communication structures.
P2. Ability to write some short texts in German based on patterns (for example CV, e-mail...)
P3. Ability to understand oral and written messages in German (mainly business situations). |

Planned learning activities and teaching methods :

| Methodology:
A1. Discovering several chapters of the book by the teacher (vocabulary, grammar rules, several aspects of business life in Germany)
A2. Exercises in the multi-media lab and the language lab, on line exercises (Lola) and work to do in class and at home to improve the listening and reading skills but also to lead the students to basic oral and written communication.
A3. Individual exercises (with the teacher's help), for example: writing a cv, answering questions in a hiring interview, ... |

Assessment methods and criteria :

| Written exam: 70%:
- listening comprehension
- grammar and vocabulary
- reading comprehension
- writing an e-mail
Oral exam: 30%:
- professional role-play
- questions about cv
- questions about an article (home work)
All exams take place after the end of the course (= after 24 hours).
The student who doesn't take all the parts of the exam will become 0/20 as final mark. |
