Learning unit contents
Starting from everyday dialogues (6 classes), the course presents the basic elements of Spanish: everyday vocabulary, verbal tenses (present indicative, past, present continuous, present subjective) and basic grammatical structures.
The course exercices bear on the four learning skills: reading comprehension, listening comprehension (audio documents), writing and speaking (which is essentially developed the course of the second quarter and on the basis of lexical questions & answers).
The proposed learning method focuses on the differences between French and Spanih, which accelerates the learning process yet requires a command of French.
Learning outcomes of the learning unit
Following the course's six modules, students will be expected to reach the A1+ level (introduction or discovery) as defined by the CEFR for languages. They will be able to speak about themselves, their surroundings, people's physical and character traits, living environments, family relationships, occupations (700 lexical words or idioms). Their listening and reading comprehension should reach the A2 level.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Each lesson's dialogues -- available on Lola -- will be taught in each class along with grammatical explanations and various exercices on the lexicon and grammar. The students's personal work consists in doing extra exercices, the correction of which will be posted on Lola on a weekly basis, and in in-depth study fo the lexicon and gramma. Oral exchanges on everyday topics take place in the second quarter.
It is vital for students to assimilate the curriculum and revise their class notes on a regular basis. One class input must be considered the next's prerequisite, e.g. the input taught in class 4 cannot be properly mastered without the preceding ones.
It hardly needs saying that class attendance is mandatory to effective language learning. Choosing the contrary -- and pedagogically nonsensical -- option is at the students' own risks. They are advised that in the case they will not be able to avail themselves of their teacher's personal or email tutoring or even information but will have to consult their fellow-students concerning all practical information regarding examinations (dates, schedules, rooms). No excuse will be accepted on this point.
As regards group migration:
- In no case may students change groups for personal convenience (travel, car-pooling, free time slots, student job etc.)
- In no case may students change groups in order to attend another Block's course.

Written examination (partial in January* and final assessment in the June session):
questions on the vocabulary, sentence translations, exercices on grammar and tenses.
There is no oral examination for the standard B1 level.
*In the case of failure, the score will not be taken into account and only the June examination will. In the case of success, the score will account for 20% of the final score. However, if the student obtains a better score in June, only that score will be taken into account.
In the second exam session, 'all counters are reset to zero'.
Concerning examinations, in the case of belated arrival at an examination (less than 30 minutes), students will not be allowed any time extension. In the case of arrival after the first half-hour, students will not be allowed to take the examination and they will get a score of 0/20.
A consultation session is organized As a follow-up to the examination. Please note that this is organized for all at a given time but can in no case take account of any personal circumstances.

Organisational remarks and main changes to the course
The course is open to Erasmus students even if leaving after the first quarter (Q1). In the case, their written examination will bear on the curriculum seen until then (credit number adapted accordingly). Those who would like to take the course as of the second quarter (Q2) will have to revise the Q1 curriculum and will be assessed on the 6 modules (3 ECTS).
