Learning unit contents
Lectures about Ancient Egyptian texts based on original documents. This learning unit aims at developping the students skills in the fields of epigraphy, palaeography, ecdotics, and hermeneutics.
Learning outcomes of the learning unit
Ability to make an hieroglyphic transcription, a grammatical analysis, a translation, and a detailed philological commentary of ancient Egyptian sources (from the Old Kingdom down to the Ptolemaic Period).
Prerequisite knowledge and skills
Good knowledge of Classical and Late Egyptian.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods
In this seminar, I resort to rich digital media, with pictures of the original documents and standardised hieroglyphic transcriptions of the texts under study.

Recommended or required readings
Students are asked to read a series of scholarly papers linked to the yearly topic. The slides of all the seminars are provided in digital format.
Personal essay on a unpublished Egyptian document and written + oral exam on the topic discussed during the seminar.
