Schedule
Units courses prerequisite and corequisite
Prerequisite or corequisite units are presented within each program
Learning unit contents
This course has the puropose of presenting new numerical methods under development. Apart from the theoretical presentation of these methods, the goal pursued by these new developments, their state-of-the-art, and the future challenges are discussed. Among these methods, one can find
- Meshless methods
- Extended finite element methods (XFEM)
- Discontinuous Galerkin methods
- SPH
- Homogenization
- Etc
Learning outcomes of the learning unit
The student will be able to understand and to code a new numerical method from literature content.
Prerequisite knowledge and skills
Advanced knowledge in
- Solid mechanics
- Fluid mechanics
- Finite-element method
Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Study of a new numerical method, with as a basis, papers from the literature.
Mode of delivery (face to face, distance learning, hybrid learning)
After some introductive lectures about new and old numerical methods, literature papers will be distributed to the students for them to study a new numerical method.
Lecture will be face-to-face or on e-Campus depending on the sanitary conditions
Recommended or required readings
- Lecture notes on http://www.ltas-cm3.ulg.ac.be/classes.htm
Written work / report
Other : Presentation of the project
Additional information:
Evaluation is based on a project, which consists in the presentation and the implementation of one of the recently developed numerical methods. Literature papers will be the basis of this project. Realization of the project and participation to the presentation are mandatory.
Presentations will be on-site or remote depending on the sanitary conditions
