Learning unit contents

The course introduces the specificities of qualitative approaches through steps in a scientific research (data collection, analysis and interpretation). Content analysis, discourse analysis and Grounded theory method (GTM) are introduced.

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

The student will be able to:

  • given a research question, decide whether a qualitative or a quantitative approach is relevant,
  • accurately define qualitative terms,
  • designate a qualitative phenomenon.

Prerequisite knowledge and skills

Fluency in French is mandatory. Students whose mother tongue is not French are encouraged to follow this course when they will have acquired a perfect mastery of French langage.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

Theorical sessions are ex cathedra teaching, using slides. Exercices are organized in small groups.

To pass the exam, the grade should be above 6/12. In that case, the final grade is structured as followed:

  • Exam: 12 points
  • Exercises: 8 points
