Learning unit contents
This course is aimed at any student interested in the strategies, tools and practices to be used when conducting educational activities. The focus is on adult education, but the concepts and methods underlying the approach can also be applied to younger learners and in schools.
The seminar will address this overall question: what can models and tools from adult education contribute to teaching? What can different teaching philosophies, practices and paradigms bring to adult education? This questioning will be based on three dimensions: the trainer's pedagogical models and conceptions (including alternative and innovative models), the parameters of the pedagogical action implemented, and specific pedagogical actions.
Learning outcomes of the learning unit
At the end of the course, students should be better able to:
- develop a self-reflective analysis in the field of educational quality ;
- identify the main parameters of an educational action and develop a reflection on their mobilisation;
- develop their ability to stimulate cognitive activity and learning in learners, particularly when giving a presentation;
- develop their legitimacy as a trainer;
- develop their relationship management skills in presentation and training situations;
- gain a better understanding of the educational and training implications of alternative teaching methods;
- understand the major issues in education and training today and in the future.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
The course consists of :
2-hour class sessions on Wednesdays from 8 to 10 a.m. ;
a self-training seminar (2 days), on 14 and 15 December 2023 from 9am to 5pm.
The seminar is entitled "Thinking about tomorrow's education and training" and focuses on the link between training/educational practices and philosophical positions, values and principles. It also looks at the connections between teacher training and teaching.
In addition to the course, 6 projects will be presented by students taking part in an international training course on the human dimensions of sustainable development projects. These participants come from a country in the southern hemisphere and have in common that they run projects that aim to improve the environment, which implies in particular that they run training activities.
Throughout the course, the six projects will be presented, and students will be invited to comment on them in relation to the course. Video clips presented by the students themselves will also be available.
NB: these projects are different from those presented in the Adult Learning and Development in Training course.

The premises are not equipped for podcasts. However, the course sessions could be recorded (teacher's computer in charge) and made available in the days following the in-person course dates. Attendance is strongly recommended in order to take part in the discussions and interactions with the group.

Additional information:
Assessment takes the form of an oral examination. Two themes are chosen at random and students are asked to relate them to each other. Students are asked to find out how their thinking on the first topic can contribute to their thinking on the second, and vice versa.
Students are invited to apply their reasoning to one of the six sustainable development projects presented in the course, in this case the one they have chosen during the year.
Participation in the seminar is compulsory. If they are unable to attend, students may opt to complete an individual assignment, the instructions for which will be given during the course.
