Learning unit contents

The course is an introduction to the history of medieval philosophy dealing with the problem of the universals connected with issues in contemporary philosophy, and based on a selections of texts. The course would like to show what makes medieval philosophy so specific, in its ways of philosophizing and in its links to our philosophical present.

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

To introduce students to issues and methods that make up the specificity of Medieval Philosophy.

Each part of the course will be devoted to an aspect of the problem that will give rise to a presentation of theoretical problems and solutions, but also, and inseparably, to the reading and the commentary of a set of founding texts.

We will work with a choice of texts distributed during the class and made available on MyULiege. The bibliography indicates the works and comments on which the course will be based.

3-hour writing examination including 2 questions on the course itself and 1 explanation of a short text taken from texts studied during the class.
