Course contents :
| Starting from the basic concepts of electronic and phonon band structures, the course will describe the properties of the main classes of materials (metals, semiconductors, insulators). The emphasis will be placed on the description of some specific properties (transport, magnetic, optic, ferroelectric, piezoelectric, superconductor) and their use in some paractical applications : electronic devices (diodes, transistors), data storage, magnets, sensors, actuators, screens, ... |
Learning outcomes of the course :
| The goal of this course is to initiate the students to the microscopic aspects of the physics of materials and to describe the mechanisms exploited in various modern devices. |
Prerequisites and co-requisites/ Recommended optional programme components :
| Basic concepts in cristallography, quantum mechanics and statistical physics. |
Planned learning activities and teaching methods :
| Informations concerning the labs will be provided in the beginning of the semester. |
Mode of delivery (face-to-face ; distance-learning) :
| The oral course will content 15 modules of 2 hours and will be completed by exercises (7x 2 hours) and laboratories (6h). |
Recommended or required readings :
| Notes will be distributed to the students. |
