Learning unit contents
This course is meant to help students to improve their academic essay writing skills. Writing these essays requires the implementation of specific instructions as well as good knowledge of English. Accordingly, students have the opportunity 1) to prepare the literary texts that are analysed in the main course beforehand and, with the help of the pedagogical assistant, to do grammar and vocabulary exercises on these texts; 2) to have a closer look at the theory on essay writing that is explained in the main course and to do additional exercises; 3) to write two optional essays at home, which are marked following the criteria that are applied during the exams.
Learning outcomes of the learning unit
This course will provide students with tools that will help them to write literary essays in English, according to the format that is recommended in the main course (Introduction to Modern English Literature I).
Prerequisite knowledge and skills
Good knowledge of English.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods
The course includes modules that combine theory and exercises. In addition to the modules on the texts that are studied in the main course, supplementary classes also focus on the introduction, the body and the conclusion of the essay, as well as on how to optimize relevance in quotation choice and analysis, avoid plagiarism, and implement the stylesheet used in literary academic writing in English (in this case, MLA).

Organisational remarks and main changes to the course
The same class is organized thrice each week, so as to give all students the opportunity to attend it. It is held on Monday from 9.00 to 10.00, from 12.00 to 13.00 and from 13.00 to 14.00 (A2/6/8).
