Learning unit contents

The PHTLS: The Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Support course is a 2-day training program aimed in particular at pre-hospital workers who have to take care of traumatized patients. It is recommended in Belgium for PIT and SMUR prehospital vectors, including for the management of major trauma victims. PHTLS is designed on the principle of evidence-based medicine and prioritizes efficiency above all else through a pragmatic approach. Based for its structure on the concept of the ATLS course for doctors, the PHTLS allows, through its original pedagogical approach, to improve the capacities of the students to evaluate the state of gravity of a patient and to carry out the adequate life-saving gestures.

This is a course for students who will have to take care of traumatized patients in prehospital.

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

At the end of the training, students will be able to: - move towards a systematic assessment of the trauma patient - manage priorities by following the principle of "Treat first what kill first".
