Learning unit contents

In this course, you will learn the SAS language, Statistical Analysis System, focused on statistical analysis in Social Sciences.

You will discover the SAS environment, the structure and the SAS programming language and finally, you will write programs.

The course is divided into two main parts

1. The DATA step

  • Syntax of instructions, language elements;
  • Input-Output statements;
  • Creation and management of SAS files;
  • Assignments and Expressions;
  • Use of internal functions;
  • Control structures: Repetition, conditional execution;
    ...
2. PROC step

  • Univariate analysis;
  • Graphic representations;
  • Independence test;
    ...

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

Learning the SAS programming language and statistical analyses with this software.

Prerequisite knowledge and skills

Windows environment;

Navigation in Ecampus;

Using Winzip or equivalent.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

Ex cathedra lectures;

Exercises during class sessions;

Exercises to prepare between sessions;

Summary exercises between the chapters.

 

Suggestion: To pass this course (like many others) you will have to: -1- be present in lessons; -2- take notes (active listening) and -3- read the slides during the year.

Additional information:

The course is given in the first term for 2 hours per week in a room with 24 PCs.
There will be no podcast of this course (the interactive format of this teaching is not suitable for podcasting).
