Duration :  21h Th, 3h FT
Number of credits :
Master in Forests and natural Areas Engineering, Professional Focus, 1st year2
Lecturer :
Coordinator :  Bruno Schiffers
Language(s) of instruction :
French language
Organisation and examination :
Teaching in the first semester, review in January
Course contents :
  • Physical characteristics of spraying
  • Application techniques
  • Toxicological aspects
  • Pesticide dispersal models in the environment (air, soil and water)
  • Practical use of the sprayer for phytosanitary treatment application
  • Factors influencing biological efficacy of treatments linked with spraying modality
Learning outcomes of the course :
Present spraying techniques and their environmental impact.
After completing the course, the student is expected to:
  • Understand interactions between spraying techniques and environmental impacts
  • Be able to use pesticide dispersal models in the environment
  • Understand physical process involved in application techniques
  • Understand and discuss scientific literature in this domain
Planned learning activities and teaching methods :
This course is given by three teachers. Professor Bodson Bernard presents practical modalities of products use, particularly the influences of pedoclimatical and agronomical characteristics on the biological efficacy of phytosanitary treatments. Two sessions are given as "ex cathedra" course, largely illustrated with Powerpoint slideshows and one session is given on a field of the Experimental Farm, with a live field treatment observation. Professor Schiffers Bruno presents toxicological aspects. Professor Lebeau Frédéric presents physical bases of spraying application on the basis of scientifc publications providing the state of art of this domain.
Mode of delivery (face-to-face ; distance-learning) :
Face-to-face
Recommended or required readings :
Document and PowerPoint slideshows presented at teach session will be at student disposal.
Assessment methods and criteria :
