Prerequisite or corequisite units are presented within each program

Learning unit contents

This course summarizes basic notions in statistics (random variables, distributions, hypotheses testing, descriptive statistics), with an emphasis on the techniques to be used for courses to be taught during the year (risk analysis, for example). Theoretical aspects are illustrated using a spreadsheet.

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

A goal is to help the student to become familiar with the various descriptive measures used in statistics to summarize a data collection, and, more importantly, to demonstrate how field problems can be addressed through statistical hypotheses testing.
