Learning unit contents

An aquarium is a closed system, functioning as an artificial ecosystem.
Building and maintenance are considered, in particular :

* Materials
* Light
* Water chemistry
* Filtration (Life Support System)
* Food end feeding
* ...

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

To provide students with the knowledge and skills for the maintenance of aquatic species in aquariums (freshwater and seawater) as part of their future research projects. This course is intended for future aquaculturists, oceanographers and biologists.

Prerequisite knowledge and skills

Basic scientific knowledge, level Bachelor in Biology (or similar)
Good knowledge of the French language

* Tour of the Aquarium-Museum facilities

5 lessons (Duration : 4H) during the first quadrimester, Zoological Institute.

Additional information:

The second exam session assessment will consist in a written work to handover : choose a species , present it briefly and justify how this species fits in a collection plan with the main missions of a public aquarium (about 1500 words)
