Learning unit contents
At the University, many opportunities are offered to students to enable them to become independent in searching, evaluating and using scientific information in an "evidence-based" way. This course represents one such opportunity.
The course focuses on the following topics:
- scientific publications in nursing ;
- tools for retrieval of specialized information pertaining to nursing;
- the process of searching for evidence (advanced methods);
- writing a scientific paper: tips, plagiarism and rules on citing references.
Learning outcomes of the learning unit
At the end of the course, students will be able to:
- define the concept of "evidence-based practice" ;
- describe the interest and principle of different information resources specialised in nursing;
- search for evidence from the scientifique literature;
- understand how to avoid plagiarism and cite their references when writing a document.
Prerequisite knowledge and skills
Planned learning activities and teaching methods
This course will include face-to-face sessions and online exercises.
In the face-to-face sessions, theoretical lectures, demonstrations and explanations of the material will be offered. Readings will be used as theoretical support.
The exercises will be done at home. They will allow the application of the concepts seen in the course.

Course assessment (written exam) will take place according to the Faculty calendar. The assessment will evaluate the knowledge and skills learnt on the course (see Learning outcomes).
