Learning unit contents

Gamification, serious games, educational games, edutainment: the crossovers between video games, teaching and learning are the subject of long debates and great hopes in the fields of pedagogy and didactics. The profusion of discourse underlines the need for a categorization of practices as well as a critical approach to concepts. This clarification will be the starting point for the teaching unit, which will then focus on a still largely unthought out area of game pedagogy: learning about the game itself, which is subject to obstacles and determinants that must be mastered or circumvented. Once these didactic aspects of the video game have been established, it will be a question of exploring the educational (formal, non-formal and informal) and teaching (school or not) practices using video games. Finally, the continuation of the teaching activities will question practices that give pride of place to learning while going beyond this field: the use and detour of existing video games by interest groups for civic, militant or pedagogical purposes.

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

The following competencies will be verified during the assessments (each assessment may cover one or more competencies): - Knowing the different pedagogical practices related to video games - To understand the scientific and didactic stakes related to these practices - To mobilize the concepts resulting from teaching through and at play in personal analysis and in response to citizen questioning. - Actively participate in face-to-face and distance learning courses

Prerequisite knowledge and skills

Written and oral, active and passive mastery of French (learning language) as well as basic office computer functions (word processing, e-mail, slide show) is required of participants.
