Learning unit contents

The course introduces the theories and methods of measurement in psychological and educational sciences. It consists of:
1. An introduction devoted to (i) the definition of the measurement concept , by comparison with the concept of evaluation and (ii) the theoritical and practical problems of the measure in human sciences, as well as the different steps of the measurement process;
2. The developement of the measurement framework ;
3. The writting of the questions;
4. The preparation of the measurement instrument and the conception of complex test designs;
5. The Classical Test Theory
6. The Item Response Theory models and in particular the one parameter logistic model
7. The validity of the measure.
The cours will start by a presentation of the different statistical notions frequently used in the course.

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

The course aims at :
1. Familiarizing students with the fundamental concepts of psychometrics ;
2. Making students sensitive to the measurement problems encoutered in human sciences ;
3. Describing the rules and procedures for the elaboration of a measurement instrument ;
4. Enabling students to compute and interpret several psychometric indices from the Classical Test Theory

5. Initiating students to Item Response Theory models

Additional information:

The assessement consists of 40 True-False questions and 5 exercises. The True-False section represents 80% of the score.
