Adopting an "Evidence-Based Practice" (EBP) approach, at the service of clinical reasoning, is increasingly advocated for our professions as clinicians, in psychology and in orthopedagogy. What is this approach? How to adopt it in our daily clinical practices? The primary objective of this module is to define EBP and to give the keys to internship supervisors in order to be able to concretely adopt this approach in their clinical practice but also in the supervision of their trainees.

Clinical reasoning is at the center of the four clinical activities, namely prevention, psychodiagnosis, screening and intervention. The first three activities are at the heart of the training in Master in Clinical Psychology. Intervention is at the center of the year of supervised practice. The objective of the internship supervisors is to support the development of this clinical reasoning at all levels of training for future clinical psychologists. This is why the course will first offer a brief reminder of the definition (s) of clinical reasoning, which varies according to the field of the internship supervisor (e.g., psychology, speech therapy, remedial education). This will allow learners (i.e., supervisors supervising trainees) to share a common theoretical framework.

This module will also promote attitudes conducive to the development of clinical reasoning in the trainee such as benevolence (i.e., interpersonal skills).

Particular attention will be paid to the diversity of illustrations so that they are closest to the reality of the internship supervisors (e.g., psychology, remedial education, speech therapy, etc.).

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

The objective of this module is to provide concrete guidance to internship supervisors (i.e., know-how) so that they can best support their students in the development of their clinical reasoning skills. The interest of modeling, role plays, oral presentations of cases and other educational devices will be discussed as well as its suitability according to the targeted clinical activity (ie, prevention, psychodiagnosis, screening and / or intervention) and of the clinical reasoning that is associated.

At the end of this learning unit combining ex cathedra courses, case studies and role plays, the professionals in training will have a clear vision of the definition of clinical reasoning and will also be able to develop a student supervision plan. in their year of supervised practice.
