Learning unit contents

This individual placement will give each student the opportunity to call up what they have learnt during sessions of 'Question and practice of young child education' and 'Training of Early Childhood Professionals'. This placement will take place in an ECEC service in relationship (or not) with research. It will enable each student to participate in a training or accompaniment "dispositif" in early childhood education and care. On the basis of a contextualized analysis, each student will develop a personal argumentation about professionalization of early childhood professions.

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

This placement aims at developing the professional identity and abilities of future trainer or accompaniers in ECEC services (Early Childhood Education and Care services).   By the end of this experience, students will be able to contribute to designing and adjusting approaches and professionalizing "dispositifs" (training, accompaniment)

Prerequisite knowledge and skills

P : PEDA0069-Ab
C: PEDA0007-Bb

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

Either individually or in pairs, students will contact a training operator (if possible registered and subsidized by the "Office de la Naissance et de l'Enfance") and lead an interview. All the steps linked to the interview (planning, preparation, ...) and collected data will be the basis for a training "dispositif" analysis. The Professor will provide an extensive list of addresses and contact details, as well as a letter giving precisions about the placement activity. It's also possible to join an advisor in education or an educational coah to participate in a project accompaniment.
The student will retranscribe the recorded interview of the trainer or other accompanist. He will analyse the whole collected documents : retranscription of the entire interview, presentation documents of the training institution, all kinds of document to which the trainer can give access (ie. the training offer proposed to ONE selection)
This analysis will allow the student to identify what is specific to the logic of training (planned objectives, values, principles of action, approaches and training methods and individual support, evaluation methods planned, etc.). He will identify the elements likely to contribute to professionalization.
On a second step, each student will take part in the accompaniment of a project or in the complete set of sessions set up by the trainer, leads non participatory observations of the "dispositif".
Thanks to these new elements (observation field notes, analysis of exchanges with professionals during training session or informal moments, documents given to participants and so forth on). He deepens the analysis while referring to resources of Partim I and on the basis of a personal, critical and reflective research. He will put the issue of the local "dispositif" in the broader context of professionalization challenges met in the Federation Wallonia-Brussels. He points out realistic, pertinent and contextualized proposals of regulation.
The Professor will organise a collective and accompaniment seminar to analyse the practice.
Taking part, in collaboration with the professor's team, in study days, meetings in collaboration with the trainer.

Mode of delivery (face to face, distance learning, hybrid learning)

The 3 ECTS credits are divided as follows: - Participation in accompaniment seminars (at least 3) - investment in the placement - placement report

Recommended or required readings

The placement assessment is based on 2 elements:
1) the placement evaluation form completed by the placement supervisor,
2) the placement report (quality and referenced analysis).
