Learning unit contents

The course « Basic concepts of Zoology » belongs to the Zoology module. 
The course is made of six sections 
(1) Introduction to zoological sciences ; 
(2) Life origin and evolution ;
(3) Animal classification ;
(4) Embryology ; 
(5) Animals and environnement ;
(6) Diversity of vertebrates 

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

Contribute to basic scientific training by providing the student disciplinary skills and techniques for the History of Natural Sciences.
At the end of the course, the student must be able to:
-> Demonstrate sufficient knowledge of the history of zoological sciences
-> Present the main hypotheses supporting the emergence of life and animals
-> Present the basics of the theory of evolution by natural selection
-> Present the methodology associated with the nomenclature, the description and the name of a living species.
-> Present and describe the development cycle of an embryo of Cordé
-> Present the diversity of vertebrates and their interaction with their environment

There is no syllabus provided, but a book is proposed as a complement (Zoologie (Miller and Harley). Editions de Boeck supérieur)
All powerpoint slides will be provided to the students using ecampus.
