Learning unit contents

This course aims to introduce students to the major key concepts of psychology of disability (through the main international classifications.



- Terminology and classifications

- Epidemiology, etiology and diagnostic

- Disorders and disabilities

 A particular focus will be on (1) genetic intellectual disabilities and intersyndromic differences and (2) Autism spectrum disorder.

For each of them :
Psychomotor development
Cognitive development
Communication and language development
Affective development and attacment
Emotional development
Social development

 

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

At the end of the course, students will gain awareness of the main characteristic of the psychological development of people with disabilities and will have a better understanding of the psychological issues of interventions and of the role of the professionals in the follow up of people with disabilities.
