Learning unit contents

Objects and methods of psychology; brief historical overview; psychological questions presented through several major psychological perspectives: biological, behavioral, cognitive, systemic and humanistic. General overview of psychology.

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

Introduction to the fundamental concepts of scientific psychology. Acquisition of general knowledge. It will be question of seeing how important notions such as personality, emotion, learning and memory, motivation or psychological disorders are approached within the different psychological perspectives.
The course contributes to the development of critical thinking in relation to psychology issues. Among the topics covered:

  • Definition of psychology.
  • Introduction to several psychological perspectives. 
  • Biological basis of the behavior.
  • Sensation and perception.
  • Learning.
  • Memory.
  • Thinking and intelligence.
  • Motivation and emotion.
  • Stress and health.
  • Psychological disorders and psychotherapy.
