Learning unit contents

This course starts with a chapter focused on how plant cells aquire information about their position which subsequently determines their fate. Different signalling molecules are presented, together with their mode of transport. Special emphasis is put on auxin, now regarded as plant morphogen, its polar transport and signaling pathway. The next chapters then describe vegetative and reproductive development of higher plants and illustrate the role of the signaling molecules presented before. The formation of the primary meristems during embryogenesis, their post-embryonic functioning and homeostasis are important topics.

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

The aim of this course is to illustrate by chosen topics the state of the art in the field of Plant Developmental Biology, from genetical control to morphology, including signaling pathways. At the end of the course, the students should know the vocabulary, the theoritical concepts and the methodological approaches that will enable them to read any publication relevant to Plant Development.

General Plant Physiology. Methods in molecular biology and genetic engineering.

Additional information:

The evaluation will include (for 40%) a personal project on a topic proposed by the student or chosen among a list of suggestions. The remaining 60% of the evaluation is an oral exam.
